InterFaith Food Shuttle hiring AmeriCorps member to coordinate Share Our Strength program

The Inter-Faith Food Shuttle is now hiring for a full time AmeriCorps member to help coordinate Share our Strength's cooking-based nutrition education program, Operation Frontline, for low income community members.  The Food Shuttle, office based in Raleigh, works to alleviate hunger and improve access to healthy foods in seven central NC counties. Please note this position is a full time position and does require some evening work.  Start date is September 1- September 15, 2010.

Share Our Strength’s, Operation Frontline®
AmeriCorps National Direct Program
AmeriCorps Assignment and Project Description

Share Our Strength’s Operation Frontline is a ground-breaking nutrition education program that helps families by teaching them how to prepare healthy low-cost meals and receive the most nutrition from a limited budget. Since 1993, the program has utilized the strengths of professional chefs, nutritionists and financial advisors in roles as volunteer instructors, teaching classes for adults, teens and children living on low incomes.

Operation Frontline offers seven specialized courses that take a cooking-centered approach to nutrition and household budgeting.  Nutrition courses are taught by chefs and nutritionists who volunteer their talents to teach families how to make healthy food choices on a limited budget.  Courses are offered for adults, teens, children, parents and children together, and those living with HIV/AIDS, and include four or six two-hour sessions.  Each class includes hands-on meal preparation led by a chef who teaches participants that cooking healthy foods can be simple, enjoyable, and delicious.  Many local programs also recruit financial professionals to offer our money management curriculum, Saving Smart Spending Smart.

Share Our Strength is seeking AmeriCorps members to help with its local partnering program for Operation Frontline at the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle in Raleigh, NC.
