Hartford County Extension Center

The Connecticut Cooperative Extension System of the University of Connecticut seeks a full time Sustainable Food Systems Extension Educator for the Hartford County Extension Center located in West Hartford, CT. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, conducting and evaluating extension outreach education programs for sustainable food systems in urban, rural and suburban communities statewide. Included will be all facets of farm to table systems and networks to best achieve local food security for families, schools, communities, and agricultural producers. Developing partnerships will be essential. The faculty member will be actively involved in grantsmanship, scholarship, and will perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: An earned master’s degree in agricultural economics, applied economics or resource economics, nutritional sciences, plant science, animal science, or a related field. Demonstrated success teaching in formal or non-formal settings. Applicants must have significant and demonstrated related experience in this field of sustainable food systems. Applicants must possess strong skills in leadership, computer literacy with knowledge of Microsoft Office, written and verbal communication, and interpersonal relations. Applicants must be self-starters and have the ability to work effectively with minimum supervision both independently and as a team member. In addition, personal transportation is required; mileage allowance is provided for work-related travel. Evening and weekend work is required on occasion.

Desired Qualifications: Demonstrated experience in fund raising and/or grantsmanship. Familiarity with the Cooperative Extension System and the land-grant university system. Experience in enhancing diversity in educational program delivery and participation. English/Spanish bilingual capacity preferred.

This is an 11-month annually renewable, non-tenure track faculty position.
