A federally-funded weight loss research study is seeking a full-time dietitian to deliver its weight loss counseling intervention. The study is examining whether allowing the patient to choose between 2 diets (low-fat/reduced-calorie or low-carbohydrate) is more effective than choosing the diet for the patient (as is done typically in diet comparison studies).
The position is for 3 years, and the dietitian will be a member of a dynamic research team that includes physician investigators, a social psychologist, a research coordinator, research assistants, statisticians, and expert consultants in the fields of food preferences and obesity-related quality of life. Diet counseling will be delivered in small groups and as individual phone counseling over 1 year of patient follow-up.
Qualified candidates will be a U.S. citizen and a licensed dietitian in the state of North Carolina; research experience is desirable but not required. Targeted salary is federal GS-9-1 ($48,895) with federal fringe benefits. Actual salary is based upon education and experience. Anticipated start date is 9/1/10.
