The Carolina Farm Stewardship Association (CFSA) seeks a Communications Coordinator

Location: Pittsboro, North Carolina

The Carolina Farm Stewardship Association (CFSA) is a non-profit membership organization that works to create a local and organic food system in North and South Carolina. Based in Pittsboro, NC, CFSA is the oldest and largest sustainable agriculture organization in the Southeast. We have a thirty-year record of successfully uniting farmers, consumers and businesses to build a just, healthy food and farming future. This includes the Piedmont Farm Tour, organic certification, conferences and education, and advocacy for small farms with state and federal governments.

The Communications Coordinator position is a part-time salaried position that will play an active and vital role in empowering people in the Carolinas to take control of their food supply. You will be helping communities figure out what to do after they’ve seen films like ‘Food, Inc.’ and ‘Fresh.’

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Communications Coordinator will report to the Executive Director and be responsible for:
o implementing programs and communication strategies that increase and sustain public awareness of, and encourage support for CFSA.
o employing a variety of communication media to communicate CFSA’s mission and work to key internal and external audiences.
o maintaining the integrity of CFSA’s core messaging and branding.
o managing CFSA’s internal and external communication efforts.
o directing marketing and communications programs to promote key CFSA activities.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Communication activities for which the Communications Coordinator will be responsible include:
o Implementation of stakeholder campaigns
o Management of CFSA’s internet and social media presence, including:
o Website, Facebook and Twitter accounts
o Search engine optimization
o Advocacy alerts
o Cultivating relationships with media organizations, including:
o Producing and disseminating media releases, story pitches, op-ed pieces, and public service announcements
o Maintaining and updating our media contacts lists
o Design, development and production of all printed communication materials, including:
o Our quarterly newsletter, Stewardship News (develop and solicit content, edit, layout)
o Annual Sustainable Agriculture Conference promotional materials & program
o Brochures, fact sheets, white papers, banners, table top displays, and other public outreach materials
o Membership mailings
o Managing relationships with printing and mailing vendors
o Maintaining our photo, video & audio archive
o Coordination of communications relationships with partner organizations, including:
o Serving as clearinghouse for the use of CFSA logos and other materials for use by outside organizations
o Engagement of allied organizations in communications programs
o Promotion & advertising, including:
o Creation & placement of advertising
o Submitting CFSA events to other organizations for inclusion in public calendars
Qualifications:
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
• Four years of experience in communications, including: organizing and executing communications projects; graphic design; public relations; and marketing
• Experience, education, and/or a passion for Sustainable agriculture
• Proficiency in computer use and graphic design in a PC environment, including MS Office, Dreamweaver, Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
• Proficiency in website development and management, including Facebook, Twitter and blogging software, email newsletter management tools, HTML, basic javascripting and CSS, Flash
• Experience in video and audio editing
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Proven ability to multitask, consistently meet or exceed deadlines and goals, and work effectively with diverse groups and individuals
• Excellent writing, editing and oral communication skills
• Must be self-directed, organized, attentive to details and enthusiastic
Salary/Compensation:
Position is part-time (20 hours/week) with generous vacation benefits, health insurance stipend, and a competitive salary, commensurate with experience.
