Farm To School Coordinator with Center for Human Nutrition in NE

JOB DESCRIPTION
Farm to School Coordinator

ORGANIZATION SUMMARY
The Center for Human Nutrition is dedicated to the promotion of human health and well-being through nutrition by providing scientific expertise and technical assistance in areas of childhood obesity prevention, anti-hunger, local food systems and health, and survey development and program evaluation. The Center also submits grants and contracts, both locally and federally, to build the research infrastructure at the local, state, and national levels.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead and carry out feasibility study and needs assessment for Farm to School programs.
• Connect farmers and food cooperatives with Nebraska consumers, including distributors, schools, retailers, childcare centers and other settings.
• Research and promote procurement practices & policies in 10 pilot sites in the Omaha Public School Districts.
• Provide training and technical assistance for food service staff and public health officials.
• Develop linkages with national Farm to School Network and other professional food and nutrition associations to help promote locally grown foods in schools and public institutions.
• Help coordinate Farm to School research opportunities to advance evidence-based programs.
• Seek and secure new funding for the initiative where applicable.
• Identify publications, trainings, and marketing materials associated with the Farm to School efforts.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition or a closely related discipline.
• Experience with nutrition education programs that engage diverse audiences including low-income youth and adults.
• Experience in writing and managing grants and reports.
• Demonstrated ability to contribute successfully to long term projects involving multiple constituent groups.
• Knowledge of and productive experience working with diverse and multicultural audiences.
• Experience in development of outreach strategies and marketing tools to reach a variety of audiences.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in project management.
• Proficiency in computer skills in a networked environment.
• Ability to work independently.

SALARY
Commensurate with experience and education.

TRAVEL
Travel throughout the State of Nebraska is required. An individual in this position must provide his or her own means for traveling and reimbursement will be provided according to the Center’s policy.
