ASSISTANT PROFESSOR position in
Human Nutrition
9 MONTHS< TENURE TRACK – Start date 8/16/2010

QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D., R.D. required
Evidence of ability to teach at the college level
Evidence of research activity including ability to establish a focused research program
Experience as a practicing dietitian, preferred
Ability and interest in teaching medical nutrition therapy classes preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach courses at the undergraduate, masters and doctoral level in support of the food and nutrition baccalaureate program, masters in food nutrition, and nutrition concentration in the Ph.D. in health education/promotion programs.
Support the department’s initiatives in the area of distance education including teaching using a variety of distance options including videotaped lectures and internet delivery.
Establish an active, focused research program.
Seek research funding.
Assist in program development.
Advise and mentor students.
Serve on departmental, college, and university committees.

SALARY
Commensurate with qualification and experience.

The Department of Human Nutrition and Hospitality Management is one of the five departments in the College of Human Environmental Sciences at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The department offers undergraduate majors in food and nutrition and restaurant, hotel and meetings management. The food and nutrition major has three tracks: coordinated program in dietetics, didactic program in dietetics, and nutrition science. The department offers a masters program in food and nutrition and an emphasis in nutrition in the Ph.D. program in health promotion/ health education. The department has twelve faculty positions.
