The Division of Epidemiology & Community Health and the Nutrition Graduate Program of the University of Minnesota are seeking candidates for a predoctoral training fellowship in Nutrition and Cancer beginning immediately. This National Cancer Institute sponsored training program supports each trainee up to five years including stipend, health care and related costs. Candidates must be accepted into a doctoral (PhD) program in either Nutrition or Epidemiology, choose to
specialize in cancer, and must be either a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Qualified and interested minority candidates are particularly sought.
The emphasis of this training program is on cross-disciplinary training, i.e., requiring trainees to be exposed to fields outside the discipline of their Ph.D. Research should be relevant to nutrition and cancer, including population-based, laboratory-based, clinical, molecular and survivorship studies. Training in Epidemiology emphasizes methods and biostatistics including epidemiologic study
design and analysis and computational methods. The Division has a faculty of 56, including scholars in the epidemiology of cancer, behavioral science, biostatistics, nutritional epidemiology and health education. Training in Nutrition focuses on the biochemistry and physiology of nutrients and other dietary components. The Nutrition Graduate Program has 53 faculty members who perform research using a wide variety of models including molecular, nutrigenomic, animal, clinical trial, community-based and population based studies.
Upon successful completion, graduated trainees will be qualified for entry level research positions or further post-doctoral training in academic departments of nutrition, epidemiology, preventive medicine or community health; or in public or private agencies engaged in diet and cancer research.
