Job Description
Creates, coordinates, delivers, and supports the nutrition, health and food
safety education in a multi-county area.
- Audiences consist of professionals, paraprofessionals, and volunteers
teaching nutrition, health and food safety concepts and skills to individuals
and groups; volunteer leaders in youth and adult organizations; at-risk
audiences; policy making officials; and the general public.
- Identifies needs and develops programs based on the needs of the
client. Secures resources (contracts, grants, volunteers) to support
indentified needs. Initiates, develops and distributes pertinent subject
matter information data and projections for use in identifying client needs
as part of county and regional needs identification and program
development. Supports and encourages development of interdisciplinary
program planning, collaborative program planning and delivery.
- Teaches appropriate subject matter using current research-based
information and quality teaching methodology individually and with other
subject matter disciplines and program areas. Develops and shares
resource materials in support of subject matter program. Establishes
effective media strategy for marketing and program delivery. Evaluates
the effectiveness of programs and shares the results with stakeholders.
- Supports team work among field and state specialists and key clients;
keeps co-workers informed concerning subject matter specialty; maintains
network system among appropriate public and private service providers
and clients; exhibits high standards of professionalism that is a credit to
the individual, ISU Extension, and ISU.

Required Qualifications
Field Specialist I: Bachelor's degree in family & consumer sciences, food
and nutrition, community nutrition, public health, home economics, or
related area and three years of relevant professional experience.
Field Specialist II: Bachelor's degree in family & consumer sciences, food
and nutrition, community nutrition, public health, home economics, or
related area and five years of relevant professional experience or Masters
degree and three years of relevant professional experience.
If individual selected does not have a Master's degree, he/she must obtain
an RD or Master's degree within eight years in the position. Excellent
written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree or Registered Dietician Certification. Experience working
with culturally diverse audiences and administering grants and/or
contracts.

Salary Commensurate with qualifications.

Special Conditions
This position may be filled at the Field Specialist I or Field Specialist II
level, commensurate with qualifications.

There are two positions being filled. One position serves Central Iowa
including the following counties: Polk, Boone, Story, Marshall, Dallas,
Jasper, Madison, Warren. Office location not yet determined.
The second positions serves Western Central Iowa with the following
counties: Sac, Calhoun, Webster, Hamilton, Crawford, Carroll, Greene,
Shelby, Audubon, Guthrie. Office location not yet determined.
