Position Summary 
The Department of Extension‐Family and Community Health invites applications for a full‐time (1.0 FTE), 
12‐month, fixed‐term Professional Faculty position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Dean.  
 
Nutrition Education Program (NEP): NEP consists of two federally funded Extension programs: 
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP‐Ed, funded by the U.S. Dept. of 
Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service) and the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program 
(EFNEP, funded by USDA's National Institute of Food and Agriculture). Both programs focus on the 
promotion of health through the delivery of community‐based programs to limited‐resource audiences.  
 
The Extension FCH program: FCH faculty and staff offer effective programs to serve Oregonians through 
education and community partnerships. FCH focuses on programs that promote healthy communities, 
families, and individuals. This is accomplished by faculty, volunteers, paraprofessionals, and support 
staff, who organize and conduct educational experiences in group, community, and family settings and

EFNEP: At present, EFNEP in Oregon is delivered in two counties (Lane and Washington). EFNEP is 
designed to assist limited resource audiences in acquiring the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behavior 
changes necessary for nutritionally sound diets, and to contribute to their personal development and 
improvement of the total family diet and nutritional well‐being. EFNEP classes include curriculum for 
adults and youth in areas including nutrition, food preparation, food storage, and food safety. For over 
30 years, evaluation data have shown that Oregon EFNEP participants consistently improve their diets, 
make wiser food choices, and better manage their food budgets.  
 
SNAP‐Ed (OFNP): Oregon's SNAP‐Ed program, also known as the Oregon Family Nutrition Program 
(OFNP), aims to improve the likelihood that SNAP‐eligible audiences will make healthy food choices and 
choose active lifestyles. Programmatic areas of focus include dietary quality, shopping behavior/food 
resource management, food security, and food safety. At present, OFNP faculty and staff reach clientele 
in 21 local units representing 31 of Oregon's 36 counties and 2 Indian Reservations. For more

The individual in this position will be the Principal Investigator (P.I.) of both the EFNEP and OFNP 
programs, and will work with an Extension FCH campus team as well as FCH field‐based faculty in 
Oregon's county Extension offices. This position is responsible to the Extension FCH Program Leader.  
 
The incumbent will provide program leadership by developing procedures, program planning, proposal 
development, budget management, and analyzing data and reporting on program outcomes. The 
incumbent will collaborate with several agency and organizational partners to achieve program goals.  
 
The individual in this position will design, develop, maintain and/or carry out Extension programs to 
insure that all people have equal employment opportunities and equal program participation

Position Duties 
Program Leadership (80%) 
• Provide statewide leadership for the Extension FCH Program's nutrition education programs 
including SNAP‐Ed and EFNEP, in collaboration with the Extension FCH Program Leader, Specialists, 
NEP Program Coordinator, and other FCH and NEP leadership positions.  
• In collaboration with NEP campus team, oversee interpretation and application of program policies, 
procedures and operations by local county‐based SNAP‐Ed and EFNEP units. 
• Lead the processes of developing and managing the budgets for SNAP‐Ed and EFNEP, working with 
the statewide NEP team and campus‐based extramural funding units. 
• Participate in the development of procedures and materials to train SNAP‐Ed field faculty, 
paraprofessionals, and support staff. Relevant topics include program design, delivery, evaluation, 
data collection, outreach, and reporting. 
• Collaborate with agency and organizational partners for SNAP‐Ed and EFNEP at the state and federal 
level, including the Oregon Department of Human Services, Food and Nutrition Services (at USDA), 
and the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (at USDA). 
• Oversee organizational procedures for hiring and orienting new NEP staff. Supervise campus NEP 
staff.  
• Monitor progress of nutrition education programs by overseeing the compilation, analysis, and 
reporting of relevant output and outcome data. 
• Work together with the NEP team on planning for the evaluation of program impact on participants.  
• Employ a broad range of communication media to reach diverse audiences. 
• Develop and maintain working partnerships with multiple organizations providing education and 
services to limited‐resource families. 
• Develop a plan of work, maintain records, and provide necessary reports and other documentation 
to appropriate administrators and sponsors, as requested and needed for program effectiveness 
and continued funding. 
• Coordinate efforts to assist local SNAP‐Ed units in achieving success with their nutrition education 
programs, including fiscal and personnel management. 
• Participate as a team member of the statewide Extension FCH Program and the College of Health 
and Human Sciences (HHS) at OSU. 
• Actively pursue additional state or federal funding sources for nutrition education projects.  
 
Professional Development (10%) 
• Maintain a professional development plan to improve technical skills, maintain program relevance, 
and increase program effectiveness.  
• Maintain proficiency in subject matter that is related to nutrition education program 
responsibilities, including human nutrition, food safety, and other topics.  
 
Service to University and Extension (10%) 
• Participate in professional activities and serve on appropriate boards, councils and committees of 
the University, the College, Extension, and the community, consistent with the requirements of the 
position's funding sources.   
 
Required Qualifications 
• Master’s /PhD degree in nutrition, dietetics, health education, education, or a field related to the 
responsibilities of the position, with at least one degree being specifically in nutrition or dietetics.  
• Administrative or project management experience, preferably with federal grants.  
• Experience and strong skills in program planning, proposal development, and budget management.  
• Excellent skills in written and oral communication, including ability to effectively use electronic and 
printed mass media.  
• A demonstrated commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.  
• Demonstrated ability to build effective collaborations with others including diverse audiences, state 
agencies and partners, advisory groups, professional peers, classified staff and volunteers.  
• Understanding of issues involved in delivering programs to limited‐resource audiences and culturally 
diverse audiences.  
• Demonstrated ability to work as a team member with a variety of audiences including university 
faculty, program assistants, support staff, and agency partners.  
• Flexibility to perform work in a variety of settings and on evenings and weekends.  
• This position must possess and maintain a current, valid Driver License. Appointee must have access 
to a personal vehicle for travel, since position requires a combination of office and field work.   
 
Preferred Qualifications 
• R.D. (Registered Dietitian) certification  
• Previous experience with Extension  
• Expertise and experience with a variety of methods of program evaluation
